Frequently Asked Questions

How many guests are on each trip?

Trips will typically have a maximum of five to six clients, depending on the location and campsite capacity.

However, we can accommodate larger groups, please reach out with requests.

What should I leave for gratuity?

Industry standard for gratuity for your guide is 15-20% of listed trip price.

All guides have Venmo if you don't want to carry cash with you.

How much group gear will I have to carry?

Starting out, expect about a soccer ball sized amount of both group gear, this could be food or equipment.  It will weigh between 5 and 10 pounds.

Does NBN provide bear spray?

Yep! We sure do.  Before we hit the trail, your guide will explain how to safely use it.

You can read our blog post about how to safely hike in bear country for more information.

Can I bring my own gear?

Of course!

We just ask that you bring your gear to the pre-trip meeting, so we can make sure it is fit for Yellowstone's weather and conditions.

What kind of food is provided?

Nomadic by Nature provides breakfast, lunch and dinner.  We pride ourselves on being great backcountry cooks, and can accommodate dietary restrictions.

A typical dinner could be anything from pesto pasta to curry, using fresh and dehydrated vegetables.

Do you see wildlife in the backcountry?

While it's never a guarantee, we have a lot of opportunities to see bears and other wildlife in the backcountry.

Seeing wildlife in their natural habitat away from the roads and crowds is unbeatable experience.

Guides carry binoculars to help enhance the wildlife viewing experience.

How much will my backpack weigh?

A lot of this is up to you!  The lower your base weight (which includes tent, sleeping bag, clothes, personal gear), the lower your overall weight.

Typically, a backpack will weigh between 30-35 pounds starting out, and will lighten up as we go.

Do I have to be an experienced backpacker?

Not at all!

However, we do offer more strenuous trips that are recommended for a higher level of fitness and experience. Check out the difficulty rating for each trip and reach out if you have specific questions.

"I expect to pass through this world but once.  Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any fellow human being, let me do it now.  Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."
