"Big enough to do business, small enough to care."

We are a small guiding company, and plan to keep it that way, so we can pay attention to detail, know the secrets of the National Parks and maintain high quality tours.

Guides for Nomadic By Nature love people, love the outdoors and want to share that with their guests. Our goal is to keep you safe, slow it down, get you out of the car, and to show you why we need these wide-open spaces in our ever-changing world.

We’re also here to keep you well-fed, make you laugh and have a good time! Whether this is your first backpacking trip, or your 100th, we’re happy to be out there with you. So, let’s get on the trail, slow things down and get back to nature — join us for a world class tour!

Matt Hergert has lived all over the United States, and is well on his way to visiting all National Parks — a lifetime goal of his.  After completing a 50-day Outward Bound course, he knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life: travel and guide.

Matt has been a outdoor professional since 2014, but his love for guiding goes beyond the thrill of backpacking — he loves making people laugh, has a way of making everyone feel comfortable and is deeply passionate about wildlife, the outdoors, photography, and creating a healthy planet.

Matt M. was raised in Upstate New York with a passion for travel and exploring the world’s wild places. After earning a Bachelors in Recreation and Tourism Management, he hit the road for eight years and found himself living in far flung locales, working as a teacher to support his love of being on the road.

Whether it was being chased by monkeys down a beach in Malaysia or spending a night atop the Great Wall of China, Matt was always looking for the next adventure. Eventually he chose to settle down in Bozeman, Montana where the access to nature and wild exploration was seemingly unparalleled in the lower 48. Since 2016, he has been leading outdoor guided tours throughout the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Jackie has been an avid backpacker since 2013. Her studies and passion for geology add a unique perspective to the landscapes she visits. Jackie resides in the Pacific Northwest, but loves to escape the rainy season to backpack in the southwestern desert. Jackie's favorite part of backpacking is alpenglow!

When it comes to the outdoors and geology, you will never meet someone as passionate as Jackie.  If you are lucky enough to talk to Jackie on the phone, make sure you ask her about her travels, she has been everywhere!

Raised in Ohio, Emily discovered her love for the outdoors and traveling while completing a term of service with AmeriCorps along the west coast. After that, she took a chance with a job as a bicycle guide at the Grand Canyon, and has been on the move ever since.

Emily has worked her way through New Zealand, backpacked in Patagonia, and road tripped coast to coast here at home. Eventually, Emily landed in Bozeman Montana, where she fell in love with the wide-open spaces, wildflowers and community of Yellowstone and the surrounding area.

Tolman grew up in the Napa Valley of California. After spending time in Alaska, working on tugboats, he realized that his true passion was being outdoors and backpacking. He completed a NOLS mountaineering program in Patagonia, and began working as a bicycle guide in the Grand Canyon.

He has explored almost every trail on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, and decided to transition to guiding in Yellowstone National Park.  Tolman is a fantastic camp chef and is one of the most personable and knowledgeable guides you will ever meet.

Tolman  owns a guiding company in the Grand Canyon, called Inverted Expeditions. Check them out here!

“Matt took my two friends and I on THE most wonderful tour in Mammoth, YNP. Two of the three of us live in Bozeman and have let the archetypical “tourist” image ruin our perception of Yellowstone and make us want to stay away from the Park. Matt changed ALL of that in 3 hours. He knows quite possibly *everything* there is to know about Yellowstone and its millions of inhabitants — not to mention all of the facts and figures about the other 62 National Parks. Matt made us feel comfortable, informed, and — best of all — he was a blast to be on the trail with. Added Bonus: We were able to see several elk and bison from a safe yet zoom-less distance! I would highly recommend Matt for any guided trips — you will leave his trip feeling accomplished, amazed, and educated!”

"I expect to pass through this world but once.  Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any fellow human being, let me do it now.  Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."
